Hope and Sky

Let me tell you child,
The story that'd be sweet,
The story of friends
That turned out bittersweet.

Her, she saw the sky in his eyes,
His pale blue eyes bright with delight,
At every story she said and made,
And every time they were together in a day.

He, he saw his best friend in her,
The confidante he knew forever,
The quiet way her voice him spellbound,
The small gestures accompanying her every sound.

Her, she fell in love with another boy,
The golden boy with the golden eyes,
Listened to no warnings of heartache of lust,
Realized too late and she was left in the dust.

Him, he saw the green eyed witch,
The flaming red hair had him bewitched,
He professed his love to this pretty one,
Came back heartbroken and witchery undone.

Her, she was lost and alone on the banks
Of the bluest river in all of the land,
But the blue reminded her of another pair,
The bright and cheerful friend who dared.

Him, he was lost and alone,
On the banks of the bluest river he'd known,
His mind replayed the green eyes' disgust,
The flaming red hair flicking and him thought as dust.

She, she looked across to him,
Her pain, we believe, made her see true,
That the only one who ever really cared for her,
That the only one, "...is you".

He, he raised his eyes to find,
The source of the familiar voice or mind,
But what his eyes saw, his mind didn't see,
His mind had only eyes for a certain beauty.

This she knew.
Her plain nature too.
None would be enough for her blue eyed Sky.
Hope lost hope yet kept her smile.

For she knew in her to be as he wished -
The best friend, the confidante, the emery chip.
The quiet voice and soft grey eyes.
The platinum hair against the reddening sky.

The only friend he might turn to,
The only one who would never know.
So Sky lost Hope and Hope lost Sky
For as lovers, fate declined;

As truest of friends, they stayed not long,
For other lovers came and parted their soul.
They drifted apart, each to a corner of the world,
Finally on her gravestone was wrote-

"Here lies Hope, my forever friend and hope",
Next to her we found,
"Here lies Sky, my forever friend in eternal time".
